[Easy Japanese - Beginner's Guide #1] Essential "Site Safety and Communication" for Foreign Workers in Japan
For foreign staff starting to work in Japan or anyone who wants to learn Japanese seriously from scratch, we explain "realistic Japanese that isn't taught in textbooks, but is essential for workplaces and daily life in Japan."
You don't need complicated grammar. Let's start by mastering "Japanese that is accurately understood by others and protects everyone's safety!"
1. The Most Important Workplace Rule: "Report, Contact, Consult (Horenso)"
In Japanese workplaces, "Horenso" is highly valued as the fundamental way to advance work.
ほうこく (報告 / Report): Sharing results like "It is finished" or "We have reached this point."
れんらく (連絡 / Contact): Sharing facts like "I will be a little late" or "The schedule has changed."
そうだん (相談 / Consult): Asking for advice when you are unsure, such as "What should I do?"
💡 Tip: Japanese people believe that "if a problem happens, tell me right away." The fastest way to be trusted is not to hide it, but to "sodan (consult)" immediately.
2. Save Your Life! Emergency Signal Words Used on Site
If you are in danger at a construction site or factory, you do not have time to think about difficult grammar. Memorize these short words.
「あぶない!」 (Abunai!) – Danger! Move away quickly.
「とまって!」 (Tomatte!) – Stop! Stop the machine right now.
「みて!」・「きをつけて!」 (Mite! / Ki o tsukete!) – Watch out! Be careful.
💡 Tip: At work sites in Japan, do not give vague answers. When you get instructions, say loudly and clearly: 「わかりました!(はい!)」 (Wakarimashita! / Hai!). This protects everyone.
3. Smooth Out Daily Life! Rephrasing into "Easy Japanese"
You do not need difficult honorifics or kanji. Make your words simple so people can understand you easily.
× 難しい表現: 「ご足労いただき、誠にありがとうございます。」
〇 やさしい日本語: 「きてくれて、ありがとうございます。」 (Thank you for coming.)
× 難しい表現: 「こちらの書類に、ご署名およびご捺印をお願いいたします。」
〇 やさしい日本語: 「ここに、なまえとハンコをおねがいします。」 (Please put your name and seal here.)
💡 Tip: Do not worry about perfect honorifics. "Saying the main point clearly" is much better to reduce stress for everyone.
Summary: Connecting Across Language Barriers
Japanese might sometimes feel difficult, but once you know the basic rules and the "feeling of helping each other," it is not a distant world at all.
"Xana Lab" is a place where anyone can get real knowledge for free, regardless of nationality.
We are always cheering for your first steps in Japan!
